and Dependability
Where will you be when the oil starts to wane?
by Brad Butler
Common sense tells us that we cannot continue on the route we have been on for more than a Century now and not deplete our natural resources. Oil drives the world and without it what will we all do, how will this catastrophic event affect our lives socially and economically?
Instead of gearing for improved mass transportation the United States builds more roads. It is logic that if there is a mass transportation plan in place and executed well then the number of cars will go down as a result of it. Then why is it that North America is so behind in mass transportation? How will you get round with rationed fuel to run your automobile and no mass transportation in place?
As of 7/30/07 at 11:38 A.M., there are 302,475,153 inhabitants of the United States.
One birth every.................................. 7 seconds
One death every.................................. 13 seconds
One international migrant (net) every............ 27 seconds
Net gain of one person every..................... 10 seconds
What does this population report mean? More people and more demands of the already threatened fossil fuels. With the current attitude towards a solution there is nothing pretty in site.
Many of us baby boomers decided not to hang around and see, so we choose a new laid back life here in Costa Rica. After working stressful jobs in an ever increasingly demanding society, many of us have chosen to spend our lives here in peaceful surroundings, Costa Rica.
Just a two hour flight from Miami, Costa Rica is as easy to get to as flying from California to Texas. Many stay behind because of family, but I have discovered that I actually see my family more and under much more rewarding conditions. My niece and nephews just love to come to visit me here in Costa Rica. My family adores Costa Rica’s year round mild climate and will find every excuse known to come here and visit me.
I have often wondered why people put their lives on hold and why they do not seek out happiness if there spirit of adventure is not being stimulated. Many have become so complacent in their lives that something better out there just isn’t a thought. If the thought does occur it is mostly viewed as fantasy. Fantasy does not just have to live in ones head, fantasy can be an everyday life experience here in Costa Rica.
I tell everyone to make plans for their future, have an escape plan in place. When the oil goes south the depression of the 1920’s will seem like the Mad Hatters tea party. Without a valid plan in place how can we all not be affected in some manor? “The greatest need for invention is need”
As we all travel through life here on this spinning ball called Earth we must wonder at times what it is we are here for. I personally believe that we are to seek out happiness and to work in a direction that makes us whole. If a piece of the pie is missing then you do not have a whole pie.
My mother asked me one day in a sarcastic tone, “what is your retirement plan or have you ever given your future any thought.” I thought a moment and my reply to her was, “Mom, I hope the check bounces to the undertaker.” I hope the last day of my life here on earth I am reaching for another handle of a train, plain or ship. I view this journey as little deposit and no return. I live a more simple life here in Costa Rica and it is nothing more than geography in the grand scheme of things.
